Onward connections to Imatra and elsewhere in South Karelia available for booking.
The City of Lappeenranta launches an on-demand taxi service pilot for the connections between Lappeenranta and Helsinki Airport and Lappeenranta and Kouvola. The Home for the night pilot project will last from 22 December 2019 to 31 May 2020. The project is funded by the South Karelia Chamber of Commerce, the LUT University and the Lappeenranta-Imatra urban region. For an extra fee based on the taxi fare, the taxi can pick up or drop off passengers from Imatra or elsewhere outside Lappeenranta. The tender process for operating the taxi service was won by Taksi Saimaa Oy.
The on-demand taxi service pilot aims to improve the connections between Helsinki Airport and South Karelia for passengers whose flight departs early in the morning or arrives late at night, says Lappeenranta’s Public Transport Manager Terhi Koski
− This way passengers no longer have to stay overnight in the Greater Helsinki area, which reduces their total number of travel days. In addition, the pilot will provide valuable information on the demand for such a service, based on which we can lobby for extending the Kouvola train connection to Lappeenranta.
