Applying for general upper secondary schools

The requirement for admission to a general upper secondary school is the completed basic education syllabus. If there are more applicants for a general upper secondary school than the number of student places to be filled, students are selected in the order indicated by the arithmetic average of the grades in mother tongue and literature, second national language, foreign languages, religion or ethics, history, social studies, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, health education and geography in the basic education certificate. At the request of the guardian, the grade in the optional A2 or B3 language may be excluded from the student’s certificate. The average is rounded to the nearest hundredth.

If more than one applicant has the same average, the selection takes into account the applicants’ application preferences and then the arithmetic average of the grades in the subjects mentioned above and in physical education, crafts, home economics, music and visual arts.

The lowest acceptable average grade for general upper secondary schools in Lappeenranta is 7.00.

The lowest average grade for admission to a general upper secondary school may be higher than 7.00 if the general upper secondary school places are filled by those selected with higher averages.
