Upcoming exhibitions

10.2.-21.2. Sara Valta & Saara Korhonen: Kätketty

Welcome to the exhibition opening at Galleria Pihatto on February 11th, from 6 to 8 PM. Free admission!

The joint exhibition by Sara Valta and Saara Korhonen explores emotions and thoughts that we hide from one another, and sometimes even from ourselves. Uncertainty, incompleteness, anger, fear, and grief, as well as letting go of them, are given space and time in the form of oil paintings. Through their works, the artists reflect on the mental and physical walls we build to protect ourselves.

While the artists have their own individual approaches to the subject, their practices are united by an exploration of dark color palettes and symbolism. Korhonen approaches the theme primarily through self-portraits and delicate still lifes. In Valta’s works, death and its imagery form a central theme, serving as a means to confront difficult emotions and the process of letting go.

Valta graduated as a visual artist in spring 2025 from LAB University of Applied Sciences, where Korhonen is currently completing the final year of her studies. A shared interest in painting and phenomena of popular culture has brought the artists’ practices together.
