Class descriptions for adapted physical activity

Groups for children and young people

 

Adapted musical exercise, 45 min

A dance class aimed at young people over the age of 13 and adults with intellectual disabilities who move independently. The class includes various exercises for movement and balance as well as learning choreography under the direction of the instructor.

Adapted swimming for children, 60 min

The swimming club includes learning the basics of swimming and proceeds according to the skills of each child. The minimum age is 5 years. The child must have a personal assistant at the pool.

Special family circus, 45 min

The class includes adapted circus activities on the child’s terms using various tools. Acrobatic exercises can be done together with family, and the movements are adaptable for everyone. The circus class consists of warm-up, learning various skills and final relaxation. The entire family, including the siblings of the child with special needs, can participate in the family circus.

The special family circus group 1 is aimed at younger children and children who have not yet practised circus.
The special family circus group 2 is aimed at children who have previously practised circus and older children.

 

Groups for young people and adults

 

Gym groups

 

Gym for people with intellectual disabilities, 60 min

Groups at Joutsenohalli and Kahilanniemi. Gym groups aimed at young people and adults with gym exercises that develop muscle strength and balance. The instructors are peer instructors from the associations Joutsenon Kehitysvammaisten Tuki and Lappeenrannan Kehitysvammaisten Tuki. You do not need to register for the groups.
The groups are free of charge.

Adapted gym guidance, 60 min

The gym session is aimed at people who are interested in gym training, who have challenges participating in commonly available exercise groups and whose physical activity requires adaptation. At the gym guidance, you will receive advice on gym training and how to adapt it to suit you, and you will be able to continue your training during a peaceful gym period. The instructor will be there on the first Tuesday of the month.  No registration is needed, but if you wish, you can contact the instructor and arrange a guidance for some other week, tel. +358 400 157 514.

Adapted circuit workout, 60 min

The group is aimed at people with reduced mobility and people with reduced functional capacity. Diverse guided strength training at the gym. Balance and body control are also practiced in the class using various tools. The exercises are adapted to suit everyone. People in need of assistance must have a personal assistant.

Gym for the mental health group, 60 min

The exercise group performs circular training with gym equipment, as well as exercising with broomsticks and other equipment. At the end of the exercise session, there is a stretching routine.

Circuit workout for people with intellectual disabilities, 60 min

An exercise group aimed at young people and adults. After warm-up, there are gym exercises that promote muscle strength and balance. The class ends with stretching.

Adapted gym, 60 min

The gym session is aimed at people with reduced mobility and people with reduced functional capacity. The sports instructor will be there to advise you on the correct and safe performance of the movements.

 

Water aerobics

 

Water aerobics for the mental health group, 30 min

Refreshing and fun water exercise to the rhythm of music. Muscle tension and pain are reduced due to the massaging and relaxing effect of the water. Water exercise is also well suited for people with joint problems. A low-threshold water exercise group to which you do not need to register.

Water aerobics for people with intellectual disabilities, 30 min

The water aerobics class is intended for young people and adults with intellectual disabilities who move independently. In the pool, they perform easy movements to the rhythm of music. Water supports and facilitates movement while also offering resistance that makes exercise more effective. Water aerobics is a fun, effective and joint-friendly form of exercise. Each participant participates according to their own functional capacity. People in need of assistance must have a personal assistant.

Adapted water aerobics, 30 min

Water aerobics for people with reduced mobility and people in special groups with reduced functional capacity. Everyone participates according to their own functional capacity. People in need of assistance must have a personal assistant. You do not need to register for the group in advance.

 

Ball game groups

 

Adapted bowling, 60 min

Recreational bowling adapted to suit all participants. If necessary, you can use guide rails or a bowling ramp to help you bowl.

Adapted badminton, 90 min

This session is about learning badminton techniques adapted to suit all participants. In addition to standing up, you can also practice sitting on the floor or in a wheelchair.

Sitting volleyball, 90 min

Sitting volleyball is an adaptation of ordinary volleyball and is intended especially for people who cannot play standing volleyball. The sport is ideally suited for people who are unable to play standing volleyball due to, for example, knee or other sports injuries.

Adapted floorball, 90 min

A floorball group for young people over the age of 15 and adults in need of special support. Fun activities together in a happy group. Participants must have their own insurance.

Special hockey, 90 min

An ice hockey group for young people over the age of 15 and adults in need of special support. Fun activities together in a happy group. Participants must have their own insurance.

 

Dance and body maintenance

 

Adapted body maintenance, 45 min

A peaceful and relaxing body maintenance class where, after warm-up, a variety of easy and effective movements are performed. The movements develop body mobility, flexibility and strength. There are no floor-level movements in adapted body maintenance; the movements are carried out standing up and sitting on a chair. The movements are adapted to suit all participants, and you can also participate in the class while using aids for mobility.

Wheelchair dance, 75 min

The group is aimed at manual and electric wheelchair users who are interested in wheelchair dance as well as upright dancers. You can come alone or with a partner. Participants in need of assistance must have a personal assistant.
