Enhanced support in basic education
As a pupil in basic education, your child has the right to receive support for their learning and school attendance. Enhanced support is implemented when your child needs support for a longer period of time, on a regular basis, or they benefit from several forms of support. Enhanced support can consist of almost all forms of support for basic education. For example, the importance of part-time special-needs education, support from the guidance counsellor, individual guidance in studies as well as cooperation between the school and home is emphasised in enhanced support. In enhanced support, it is not possible to individualise syllabi or attend full-time special-needs education.
Before the decision on enhanced support is made, the teacher draws up a multi-professional pedagogical assessment with other parties involved in your child’s affairs. The pupil and guardian play a key role in all of this. The pedagogical assessment describes how your child is learning and doing at school as well as examines which support measures could be useful to them. On the basis of the pedagogical assessment, the school’s headmaster makes the decision on transitioning to enhanced support.
The teacher will invite the pupil, their guardian and other necessary parties to a meeting, during which an enhanced support package is planned. The teacher records the agreed support measures in the education plan, which is in Wilma. The education plan describes how the pupil’s education and support measures are arranged. The plan is a tool that describes the pupil’s prerequisites for learning as well as their personal goals. The teachers and the guardian will monitor the pupil’s learning and school attendance as well as assess whether the support measures are adequate. The education plan is updated when necessary, at least once during the academic year. Your child can receive enhanced support for as long as they need it. If the support measures used during enhanced support are not sufficient, an assessment of transitioning to special-needs support may be made.
