The Loistava Lappeenranta light event encourages you to go for an evening walk in November
The Loistava Lappeenranta event, held from November 14 to November 23, 2025, brings together light art and light installations by companies and communities. There are as many as 50 locations, which have been gathered together on a map available online.
The Loistava Lappeenranta event invited companies, communities, and individuals to bring joy and light to the darkness. More than 40 organizations signed up for the campaign, bringing enchanting display windows, illuminated buildings, and light installations to the event.
The city of Lappeenranta will illuminate the city hall, Karjalan kulma, and the market square kiosks with colored lights. As part of the event, the main library will also unveil its new art installation, Parveilua, created by artists Irina Raski and Teemu Heikkinen. The art light installation Niitty, consisting of flowers and butterflies, which is being created in the former Weera block, will also be ready in time for the event.
As part of the Loistava Lappeenranta, there will also be a video screening ‘Where do you come from, where do you belong?’ at Galleria Pihatto on Friday, November 14, at 6 p.m. This free event will showcase video art from different parts of Finland. The screening will feature 12 works and will last a total of 75 minutes.
In addition, the city's seasonal lights will be switched on on November 14.
Five light installations were selected for the event through an open call for artists
Juan Kasari's work Katoaminen is on display in the glass corridor of the Lappeenranta Art Museum. Kasari's works are large abstract color surfaces that are in a constant state of change. Artificial and natural light, layers of overlapping video projections, and the presence of the viewer interact with the space and give rise to new, changing meanings.
Tomasz Sekular's Seascapes in the empty commercial space at Valtakatu 23 features a light art installation that collides elements of light, video, and painting, creating a situation for passersby in which images and perceptions are in constant flux.
Sanna Majander’s work Kuulento, outside of Gallery Pihatto, combines a reflection of the landscape with movement, a line that cuts through the landscape and guides the gaze. The landscape reflected in the mirror is different every moment.
Kulanaka Rajapaksha, Samitha Dias, and Damindu Perera are creating Lantern harmony, an installation in the empty window of Armada shopping center. The work combines the soft glow of Sri Lankan lanterns with the minimalist architecture of Lappeenranta, creating a dialogue between Nordic simplicity and South Asian craftsmanship.
HetkiLux is a new company based in Lappeenranta that brings visual experiences to urban spaces. LPR – Light of the Lake is a projection that plays with light and movement, bringing the initials of Lappeenranta to life. The abstract animation takes the viewer through the city's story, from its roots and history to the atmosphere of today and a glimpse of the future. LPR – Light of the Lake can be seen 15.11. 16:00-16:30 in Marian aukio, 18:00-18:30 in Adolf Ehnrothin aukio and 22.11. 16:00-16:30 in Kansalaistori and 18:00 –18:30 in Kauppatori.
