Turve IK – Climate smart use of peatlands

Welcome to the website of this project!

This project began in January 2026 and continues until the end of 2027.

Implementation

The Climate-Smart Use of Peatlands (Turve IK) project is an information dissemination project aimed at the climate-smart use of peatlands in South Karelia, which promotes, among other things, the implementation of the Southeast Finland rural development plans and the Lakeland Finland rural environment and climate program. The project is implemented by the City of Lappeenranta and the implementation is divided into three work packages.

  1. work package: An assessment of the use and climate impacts of peatlands in the South Karelia region will be carried out using existing data sources.
  2. work package: Preparing ready-made property-specific plans for implementing climate measures in example sites. The costs of the plans will be covered by the project budget and they will be free of charge to landowners.
  3. work package: The work package covers the project's communication, stakeholder work and communication needs. Throughout the project period, there is a need to listen to feedback and views from stakeholders, guide the implementation accordingly and communicate the project's findings and results.
