In the spirit of Lappeenranta's The Dream Year of Culture, the Open Stage application has been opened. We are looking for beginners, South Karelian artists, or groups who need performance experience. Among the applicants, performers will be selected for the Open Stage event organized at Lappeenranta's summer theater (Kesäteatteri) on Sat 18 May. We are looking for 5-6 artists for the event and selected performers will be paid a fee of 250 euros per ensemble. The event, which starts at 17:30 at Lappeenranta's summer theater, will be crowned by the performance of Asa & DJ Polarsoul. The event is organized in cooperation with OP South Karelia.

- Within the framework of the Dream Year of Culture, we want to offer new South Karelian artists the opportunity to perform and thus support the development of the region's culture, says Tuulia Ahokas, coordinator of the Dream Year of Culture.

In the spirit of the Dream Year of Culture, the event is open to everyone, and admission is free. As the audience capacity of the summer theater is limited, you can secure your place by picking up a free entry ticket to the event at the customer service center Winkki.

The purpose of the Open Stage concept is to support budding artists and bands in their musical career development by offering constructive feedback and training. Open Stage also offers the opportunity to create networks and ask for tips from experts in the field. The purpose is also to promote the possibility of employment in the field of music.

All applicants are also allowed to participate in the career event in the music industry in May - the application ends on April 30.

You can apply to be an Open Stage performer by filling in the information on the application form and attaching a link to the music sample to the application by April 30, 2024. You can find the application form here: https://formbox.fi/e-form/fi/LPR/77fe0965fd

- The music sample does not have to be a professional recording - for example, a good-quality video shot on a phone, or a recorded sound recording is sufficient. You can apply as a band or as an individual artist. The music genre is also completely free, says Ahokas.

Artist selections for the Open stage event for the summer theater are made at the beginning of May. Even if you don't end up as an Open Stage artist, all applicants can participate in the "Musasta ammatti" event on May 7, 2024, at 4:30 p.m., where applicants will receive advice and guidance on developing their own music career from experts who have worked in the field for a long time.

At the Musasta ammatti event, you will hear the thoughts of two long-time authors, Jojo "Johanna" von Hertzen and Taneli Rantala, about professions in the music industry. The experts also give short feedback comments on all applicants' music samples.
