Workshops, dance, circus, music and experiences around the city - Culture Pop-ups are for everyone and free of charge to participate!
The culture pop ups starts with the music and drama workshops - “Hyvän mielen löytöretkiä”. In the workshops, we look for and wonder about new paths to our own expression, using different art forms such as scaffolding. Finding one's own "voice", putting mental images and thoughts into words, and experiencing and sharing a creative and safe space with others while respecting everyone's uniqueness is the plot of the story. Workshops are organized on April 3, April 10, April 24 and May 2 at 14–15:30 at Heikintalo. In addition, on May 2, from 18 to 20, there will be an evening party.
Keväinen taidehetki will be organized at the Yhteisötalo, and there we will familiarize with ink resist / gouache washoff technique on April 26 from 15:00 to 18:30. At the beginning of the workshop, the inner spring will be awakened by moving in the nearby nature and we allow easy exercises to inspire and enliven our imagination.The spring experiences are then transformed into an art form by getting to know the interesting and surprising ink resist technique.In this technique layers of gouache and ink are combined, washing them away from time to time. The workshop is aimed at young people and adults. No previous experience or artistic skills are required.
Vocal and musical ensemble KMMK will entertain at IsoKristiina in Unelmakulma on April 27 for four ”KrisseKeikka” gigs at 12, 13, 15 and 16. KMMK performs familiar and unfamiliar songs. As a standard performance, the nostalgic ode of the former youth to Krisse of the 90s, i.e. the shopping center IsoKristiina, will be heard. As a premiere we will hear the longing ode of former youth to the 90s Krisse, i.e. the shopping center IsoKristiina.
Theater KESY's singing city tour May 4 starting at 1 p.m., will present a selection of Lappeenranta-themed musical pieces interpreted by a choir familiar from theater performances. The event is carried out in cooperation with Lappeenranta public transport. The ten-member choir moves during one spring day on a Jouko bus reserved for the event, which can accommodate a limited number of people. The bus stops in different parts of the city and plays a song related to that district at the bus stop or in its immediate vicinity. Anyone who wants to can come and enjoy the show at pre-announced, accessible stopping places. The songs lovingly reflect the life of the townspeople without forgetting the humor. Performance venues are Kauppatori, LUT University, Kourula Business Center, South Karelia Central Hospital, restaurant Carlos Karhuvuori and Maria Square.
“Picture your feelings - Mental Health Art Week" of the participatory art space. In the participatory pop-up art space, you look for your own contours and break down thoughts into pictures. You can participate in the making of the works on your own, guided or as a spectator. You can also come to the space just to stop. Event is organized by Art Collective Mistuura and the event will take place on May 20-21 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at IsoKristiina Unelmakulma.
Street circus and open circus workshops will conquer the city on May 25-26 at 2 p.m. at Lappeenranta’s Harbour Square and at 3 p.m. at Maria Square. Open street circus performances and circus workshops are offered to the townspeople. The street circus performance is a fast-paced and colorful circus ensemble, where you can see juggling, diabolo, hoop and pole acts, unicycles, and couple and group acrobatics. After the performance, the townspeople can participate in an open circus workshop and test circus equipment under the guidance of professional circus instructors. The instructors also have experience in guiding children with special needs and families. Participation takes place with a low threshold and offers something for everyone.
An hour-long Send Me An Angel concert will be heard on May 26 in Lappee Church of St.Mary at 3 p.m. The concert offers rock and film music classics played withmusical saw and organ. In the combination of two dramatic instruments, the musical saw and the organ, you will hear music from, for example, Queen, Scorpions, Europe, Iron Maiden and film music from the films Breakfast at Tiffany's and Phantom of the Opera, among others. Two-time Finnish champion of musical saw and actor Volter Putro is playing the musical saw. The organ is played by cantor Heidi Harju.
May 31 at IsoKristiina Unelmakulma, at 2 and 3 p.m., The Circus Kumiankka – Tremolo performances will be shown. Circus Kumiankka – Tremolo is a circus piece by two men, Aaro Kontio and Henri Vahvanen, which deals with contrast, tempo and cooperation. It is an abstract story about a juggler and a circus drummer. Aaro Kontio’s object manipulation is combined with Henri Vahvanen's versatile rhythms and percussions. When experiencing this captivating, good-natured and rhythmic experience, it's hard to stay still even for those with strong nerves!
In Kuutinkulma will be held Dance Moments for the elderly and seniors on Monday, June 10. from 13:00 to 15:00 (2 x 45 min), Tue June 11 from 13:00 to 15:00 (2 x 45 min) and Wed 12 June from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (2 x 45 min). In the workshops, you get to know the different elements of dance with the help of mental images. All exercises can also be done while sitting.The dance moment includes an initial warm-up, a small dance technique section where the movement of different parts of the body is detailed, a playful rhythm section, a small choreography and final relaxation. The idea is that if you are old or have poor mobility, it does not exclude the joy and joy of dancing.
The Latin Fusion Night on Saturday June 8 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. starts with interactive dance workshops led by experienced instructors. There are excerpts from popular Latin dance styles such as Latino and Tango. The event emphasizes the therapeutic benefits of dance in reducing stress and promoting mental well-being. Event will be held at OMT-keskus Lehmus.
