The Lappee school and care center provides education and care for children between the ages 0-12. The learning path continues unbroken from toddler to sixth-grader. Children under six years of age are engaged in learning in the day care section of the school; six- to eight-year-old pupils study in ”Pikkukoulu” section; and nine-to 12-year-old students acquire knowledge in the two-storey part of the school building.


Focus areas

Lappee school and care center focuses on well-being, learning, social participation and allowing the pupil to develop at his own pace.

Solution-focused methods are applied to the promotion and maintenance of well-being. We have created clearly defined expectations for pupil behaviour, reinforced by positive feedback. Emotional, social and communication skills are taught on a regular basis at each grade.

We seek to provide pupils with active, involving, meaningful and comprehensive experiences. We also teach pupils how to learn to learn.

Staff, parents and pupils alike are encouraged to focus attention on social participation. Our school has set up pupils and parents committees, which are actively engaged in the school life and events.

Development at one's own pace is possible at our lower grades within mixed groups of children. Lessons at these grades are taught by a classroom teacher and a kindergarten teacher, who work in tandem.



Our pedagogical arrangements enable provision of support on the wide scale. As necessary, we offer flexible teaching groups, remedial education, part-time special-needs education, neuropsychiatric coaching (known as ‘Nepsy’ coaching) as well as groups for students with an attention disorder (‘Maltti’ groups). We provide regional special-needs education in inclusive classrooms on all grade levels. This means that there are no separate groups that would comprise only of pupils in need of special education; instead, each class consist of pupils that represent the various levels of supportive needs. At each grade level, a special-needs teacher works in tandem with a classroom teacher. The school can also arrange support from a school psychologist, school welfare officer or a school nurse.
