BALTFLOODS

BALTFLOODS (Baltic Flood Resilience and Digital Solutions), a groundbreaking initiative co-funded by European Union, under Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme has officially commenced. BALTFLOODS aims to enhance flood preparedness and mitigate runoff pollution in cities across the Baltic Sea region by leveraging digital and technological solutions and engaging citizens as key stakeholders.

The project is led by the City of Lappeenranta together with a diverse and competent partnership composed of seven partners: Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), LUT University, Carpe Europe e.V., University of Gothenburg, Gjøvik Kommune and GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences from four different countries (Finland, Norway, Germany and Sweden).

The consortium consists of 15 different associated partners that include a mix of educational/training centres and schools, local public authorities, small and medium enterprises and NGOs. The associated organizations are from various countries including Finland, Norway, Latvia, Ukraine, Sweden and Germany which further broadens the geographical representation of the project. This inclusive approach ensures that the project addresses the needs and perspectives of various stakeholders, promoting comprehensive and sustainable solutions throughout the project.

The three- year project aligned with the thematic scope of priority 1, ‘Innovative societies’ of Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme aims to enhance flood management through digital solutions and participatory tool that will enable citizens to actively engage in and contribute to local flood resilience efforts, maximize the community involvement and shared responsibility in addressing climate related challenges.
